CEREC, Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic, the technology that has simplified the placement of dental crowns, uses CAD (Computer Assisted Designing) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) to prepare dental crowns and veneers in minutes. This technique has allowed dentists to make crown replacements in just one patient visit. The treatment also reduces pain since the numbing injection is used just once over the patient. The quality of output from this technology is as good as any other dental crown which gets prepared in labs far away from the clinic.
Treatment Procedure With CEREC
Be it veneers or crowns, the technology uses a method for preparation which happens in about few minutes. The treatment takes place in few steps mentioned below.
The dentist examines patients tooth and decides on whether a filling or crown will be helpful for the tooth.
A digital camera is used to take a 3d image of the tooth and form an impression to produce crowns or veneers.
Production of Restoration
In this stage the crown or veneer planned is created using a milling machine.
Placement of restoration
The dentist checks the produced restoration if it fits over the natural tooth of a patient. After ensuring that the crown fits over a natural tooth, the dentist uses adhesives to place the restoration.
Benefits of CEREC
One major advantage of CEREC is it takes very less time to create the restoration which is economical from dentist’s and patient’s perspective. Apart from it, there are other benefits from this technique.
- Lesser number of numbing injections means lesser pain.
- The process of taking impression does not require any sticky agents to come in contact with the tooth.
- No temporary restorations required.
